Most of us have already heard that Wilmington, North Carolina is known as the third largest "Hollywood" in the United States and indeed, it is the rather tiny, Southern quirky home of successful television shows like Matlock, Dawson's Creek, and One Tree Hill. It is the unique little town where you can walk the brick roads along the Cape Fear River and run into one of the many stars that frequent this hidden film industry. Films such as Domestic Disturbance, The Ya-Ya Sisterhood, Black Knight, The Crow and 28 Days have made Wilmington residents very used to the sight of film trailers, large lights, cameras, and roads blocked off for major motion pictures.
However, in Fall 2008, Wilmington residents may be unprepared for what they will see! Scores of miniature film crews will be flooding the streets, fighting for locations, in costumes, in masks, each with their own story line, their own drama, their own artistic form of the independent film.
Imagine this. You are given twenty-four hours to create your very own movie. You need not be experienced in film making at all, nor do you need to be an expert actor or actress. All you need is a camera and a day. |

Following five minor requirements that will be given to you at the Hilton Riverside on day one, you and perhaps a small team of friends, scramble around Wilmington on your way to stardom. You are the producer, director, star, and cinematographer of your own film. When you are finished, a group of judges place you in the top ten, and your movie is shown at Thalian Hall. Crowds of people flock to your premiere, sharing compliments of your fabulous accomplishment.
The Patrick Crawford Foundation & The cast of Easily Amused, a local public access television show, proudly announce their sixth One-Take Film Festival. They are seeking entries from the most experienced film gurus to those who have never touched a camera or participated in the industry. They look forward to reviewing such projects as the craziest of comedy, the eeriest of horror, touching dramas, deep and artistic experimental, and spirited action flicks. Anything goes. The goal is to entirely represent the thrill, growth and love of the film industry on the East Coast. |

During Fall 2008, Easily Amused will be giving small groups of participants twenty-four hours to create an independent film for competition in their festival. Following a set of five guidelines, including specific locations, props or one-liners. These groups will be set loose in Wilmington to film what is known as a one-take movie. Simply defined, a "one-take" is a movie that is not edited, but rather, shot in order. By eliminating editing, the filmmakers will be put on a level playing field and judged on their creativity and talent, not their budget. This also allows for a more diverse crowd of competitors and a highly assorted array of different creative film entires.
The One-Take Film Festival encourages anyone with even a slight interest in making their own film to try their hand at the competition. Anybody with a camera and a weekend should contact the Patrick Crawford Foundation at (910)-392-0486 and register for this exciting event. |
